HERE LIES HENRY

Here-Lies-Henry-2021-with Bug-500x337-Web.jpg

By Daniel MacIvor
Directed by Artistic Producer Elana Elyce

February 5 - 25

Interrobang will stream archival footage of its Jeff Award-nominated one-man drama Here Lies Henry by Daniel MacIvor, newly staged by Artistic Producer Elana Elyce and featuring Scott Sawa. The revival of ITP’s very first production was shuttered last winter by the COVID-19 pandemic. Henry's got a lot he has to tell you, he just can't guarantee that it's all true. In the spotlight, with only the audience as his witness, Henry grapples with his choices and failures in a scramble to make sense of his life before it's too late. Daniel MacIvor's gripping one-man play offers a provocative take on love, death, beauty, truth, and of course, good old-fashioned lying.

Congratulations to Scott Sawa, nominated for a Jeff Award for Solo Performance in Here Lies Henry.

Press

…Scott Sawa is an incredible actor who delivers an amazing, 76-minute, one-man monologue that is fiendishly clever and, at times, very witty with topical humor.

…The last minutes are merciless, thought-grabbing – revealing truths to Henry’s story (and listen for a particular audience member’s reactions).
— Regina Belt-Daniels (Northwest Herald)
[Sawa’s] musings on life, death, love, loss, beauty, truth, time and a whole lot more are replete with allusions and word play as they range from enraged to hopeful, even if he does describe hope as a shard in the heart.
— Anne Spiselman (Hyde Park Herald)
Sawa offers a beautiful performance that lifts the poetic language of MacIvor’s script.
— Jerald Pierce (Chicago Tribune / 3.5 stars)
Sawa delivers a bravura performance. . .
— Highly Recommended, Max Muller (Chicago Reader)
Sawa and Elyce do a fine job… making ’Here Lies Henry’ into probably the most fascinatingly metaphysical play ever punctuated sporadically by dance breaks.
— Recommended, Karen Topham (Chicago Onstage)
